About Paul Daniel

I founded Peyto Design Works in 2001. As a mechanical engineer and pro-elite level mountain bike racer I created Peyto to produce unique precision crafted custom bicycle frames at a reasonable price. Peyto combined traditional construction methods with the latest in materials and engineering knowledge to create frames unlike anything else available at the time. Each bike was built by hand by me, one at a time.

Besides racing and framebuilding, my other passion is the environment. As I continued to produce high-end custom bikes, I began to realize I wasn’t doing as much as I could to solve what I feel is a growing environmental crisis in the world. Everything from global warming, resource depletion, deforestation, air and water pollution, loss of species, etc. seemed to be reaching a critical point where we have to act soon before its too late.

In the fall of 2004, I returned to school for my masters in mechanical engineering at the University of British Columbia. My focus was on green engineering and sustainable technologies - fuel cells, wind energy and green chemistry. After completion of my degree, I moved to Danbury, Connecticut to work for FuelCell Energy, Inc. as a fuel cell module design engineer. FCE has over 50 fuel cell installations worldwide and have the capability to run off of waste gases from waste water treatment and food processing plants.

I currently contract my engineering and design skills to companies and individuals that want to make a difference to the planet, but don’t have the science, design or engineering resources to make it happen. Everything from life-cycle analyses and energy balances to determine the feasibility and “environmental friendliness” of new products, to full on product design and analysis using the latest CAD and CAE software. If you dream of a bright green sustainable future, contact me.
